Balanced Ventilation in Multi-Family Projects: From Code Compliance to Airflow Verification

Tags: Aldes, Constant Airflow Regulator, Passive House, Verification

The Massachusetts Stretch and Specialized Energy Codes emphasize balanced ventilation strategies, typically requiring the use of heat or energy recovery ventilation (HRV/ERV) systems and constant airflow regulators to meet whole-unit ventilation and energy performance goals.

The use of constant airflow regulators has become a pathway to code compliance for multi-family ventilation design.   In many applications, energy recovery ventilation systems provide the required balanced ventilation and energy performance, while constant airflow regulators are used to ensure consistent and verifiable airflow delivery at the unit level.

This seminar will focus on ventilation balancing, which is a strategy used to maintain equal volumes of fresh air supplied and stale air exhaust in order to achieve optimal indoor air quality (IAQ) and maximize energy efficiency.
